Jared's Birthday!

Another birthday for Jared!  He just keeps getting older!  What an old man!  26?!!  That's pushin' 30!  Sheesh!  ;)

His birthday was on Saturday, so of course we had to make a whole weekend party out of it, right??  On Friday night I made a reservation at [of course] Market Street Grill!  It's our favorite, I think we go there for every birthday.  Yummm!  Start with some fried calamari and some bread with clam chowder... oh my, divine!!!

Then on Saturday, I threw a little party for Jared and invited all his good friends over.  I spent the majority of the day baking delicious little desserts [although absolutely no one ate hardly anything...  what a waste, I was a little a lot disappointed].  I made frozen yogurt-dipped strawberries [for the health nuts, like me], chocolate covered cookie dough balls, and amazing Oreo cupcakes!  Needless to say, I was baking literally all day.  Next time I think I'll make sure the guests actually want snacks!  ;)

I had to make it super cute, of course!  So I bought Jared an adorable birthday hat and got lots of balloons.  He was a good husband and humored me enough to wear it the majority of the night.  He was a cute little birthday boy!!

We mostly just sat around and hung out...  But then someone got out Dance Central.  Oh dearly.  Chris was our star!  I think he gets the World's Worst Dancer award  ;)  HA!  He was such a good sport, it was a TON of fun!

I am SO bugged that stupid blogger won't let me upload the video of Chris performing!  SO ANNOYED!  But I promise you're missing out.  It was unreal!

I'm so glad Jared has the friends that he does.  They're all so much fun and I love that I can call them all my own friends!  :)

Thanksgiving

One of my favorite holidays, definitely!  :)  I absolutely love spending time with our crazy families...  And I love eating good food!  So put those together...  YESSS!

After a good morning run, we went to my parent's ward (because my mom's side of the family involves 100+ people... sheesh) to have an early dinner.  It was pretty dang good!  There was some soccer involved, some fun crafts for the kids...  It was a good time!  I love how every time I'm around extended family, I'm always reminded that the Koch family is by FAR the craziest!!  A little irreverent at times, maybe a little inappropriate at others...  But I wouldn't have it any other way!  I think we probably laugh to the point of tears a lot more than most families out there  ;)

Not just the craziest family, but also the cutest!!! [Heather&Chanel]

Then later, we had dinner #2 at Jared's parent's house!  Much less chaotic with just the 6 of us  :)  I sure am blessed to have married into such a great, loving family!  Unfortunately our Thanksgiving ended a little early with Jared's dad going to the ER...  He was having pretty bad chest/head pain, and of course those are two things you just don't take lightly.  But all is well!  Just bad aches I guess!

I sure love our families!  We always have the best times together.  And I must say, I don't think there's anything I'm more thankful for than our families!

I Am Thankful!

Since tomorrow is Thanksgiving, I've been thinking a lot about all the things I am thankful for. A lot of my Facebook friends have been posting what they're grateful for daily. But, since I'm definitely not that dedicated, I thought it'd be fun for me to just do ONE blog post and write 30 things I'm grateful for.   Seems so much more productive this way :)

I'm Thankful For...

1) Family & Friends
I know, I know... Obviously.  But really, I don't know what I'd do if I didn't have my amazing, FUN, crazy family.  I truly am so blessed to have been born into [and married into] incredible families that I love so, so much.

2) Just NICE People
This really is such a huge thing to me!  Especially since I've dealt with the public my whole working life.  I've been around people who are just plain MEAN to strangers, and this behavior is absolutely 100% unacceptable.  So to all you who are truly kind people [to those you know well and to people you've never met], I SO much appreciate you!

3) A Decent Place To Live
Don't get me wrong, there are dozens of things about my apartment that I cannot stand...  Even the fact that it is an apartment.  BUT, I really truly am so grateful that we live in a decent, well-maintained place.  I'm so glad that we don't have to live in some ghetto apartment and I'm so grateful that [for the most part] our neighbors aren't totally crazy.  But most of all, I'm thankful we have somewhere to live at all.

4) My Beliefs & Standards
I am so thankful that I have something I believe in.  I know my life would be lost and I wouldn't have much direction in life without my beliefs.  It's hard for me to see others [who so obviously don't have any standards for themselves] get mixed up with drugs and breaking the law and I see friends' lives fall apart.  I am so thankful that I believe in the standards I do.

5) The Summer Sun
This is the time of year when I am very grateful for the summer sun!  I miss it desperately!  I could live with only this one season for my whole life if it was possible!

6) My Physical Abilities
I know a lot of my blogging recently has been complaining about my sad knee.  But I really need to express how thankful I am that that's all that's wrong with me.  Something this fixable, I should never be complaining.  Things could always, always be worse.  I am so thankful that I WILL have the chance to run my first half marathon.  I can do so many things that some physically can't.  So for this, I am extremely grateful.

7) GOOD Doctors
I have had many BAD doctor experiences...  Doctors who flat out tell me they don't know what's wrong within 5 minutes of meeting me, or doctors who couldn't care ANY less.  But when I find the good doctors, they are the ones that make me SO thankful.  The hopeful and helpful doctors.  Thank you!

8) Animals
If you know me at all, then you know how much I love animals.  I love animals more than people most days!  You can't find a bigger animal-lover.  I don't know what I'd do without my love for my fluffy friends  :)

9) My Future Kids
I know this is a few years away, but I am already so thankful for my future children.  I can't wait to make so many fun memories and to teach them.  I'm thankful for you, my little angels!

10) Money
I know how cliche this sounds, but think about it.  Really, what would we do without money?!  I am very thankful that Jared and I are not struggling financially.  And that's saying something in this economy.  By no means are we wealthy, that's for sure, but I'm so thankful that we aren't going without.  Even though I'm not saving as much as I used to [obviously, I'm married now!], I tend to stress over our savings account much more than I should.  I truly am thankful we have savings at all.

11) Colors
What would this world be like in black and white?!   I am so grateful for the colorful world we live in!

12) Blogging
So silly to say, but I really am thankful for this!  I feel like it has helped me get a lot of my feelings out and it has relieved a lot of stress.  I am the kind of person who needs to get everything out to feel any better.  And I feel like this is the perfect way for me to do that.  Although I do keep a more personal journal, this is just more fun sometimes!  :)

13) Pictures
I am so thankful for my picture-taking obsession  :)  I know Jared sometimes wants to throw the camera out the window [what a stinker], but I'm glad that we have so many memories that we can actually look at and reminisce over.

14) Fruits & Veggies
...and more importantly, my [for the most part] good eating habits.  I love fruits and veggies, I could snack on them all day!

15) Technology
It really gives me anxiety to think about what I would do without technology!  I mean, cell phones, the Internet, etc...  These are all fairly new technologies!  Let's just say, I was definitely meant to be born into this technological age  ;)  I would be lost without it.

16) Music
I am so grateful for all kinds of music.  When I'm feeling upset, just turning on the radio can make things completely turn around.  It can make me calm, make me happy, make me energetic, etc.  It's just a good thing!

17) Utah
I am SO thankful that I live in Utah!  Honestly, there are few other places in this world that are as gorgeous as Utah.  Every time I'm out with Jared and I see the mountains, I can't help but tell him how much I love living here.  Too often we take for granted this beautiful state in which we live.

18) Thunder & Lightning Storms
One of my favorite things is to watch lightning with Jared.  In some strange way, I find it relaxing and mesmerizing.  It always reminds me of God's great power and how small and insignificant I am in this world [not in a bad way].  And for those reminders, I am thankful.

19) Non-Judgmental People
I think this is one quality that 99% of people out there lack.  I know I have my days, we all do, but this is one thing I pride myself on.  It is not our place to judge others.  Period.  So for those of you who try your best not to, I am SO thankful for you!

20) My Job
There are always things that we dislike [or even hate] about our jobs.  Whether it's a difficult schedule, co-workers you don't like, etc, etc.  There's always something.  But I really am so grateful that I have a job at all.  Let alone, that I enjoy my job!  I absolutely love the people I currently work with and we have so much fun.

21) The Good Mood "Being Grateful" Puts Me In!
I think everyone needs to be more grateful in their daily lives!  Not just in November.  Including me.  It just makes me happier.  :)

22) My Health
We have nothing if we do not have our health.  Perfect example, Steve Jobs.  I am so thankful that I am healthy and have the desire to take good care of my body.

23) Deodorant
Need I say more??  This world would be one smelly place without it!  So GOSH, am I thankful!

24) Where I've Been
I really am thankful that I've had the ability to travel with my family and Jared.  It is absolutely a passion of mine to travel, and I'm grateful that I've been able to go to some great places!

25) Please & Thank You
These words seem to be slowly [or quickly] disappearing.  But when people tell me please and thank you, it really makes me so happy!  So for you "please and thank you" users, thank YOU!

26) My Knowledge
Not only am I thankful for what I've been taught in school, but I'm so thankful for what my parents, my family, my friends, Jared... what EVERYONE has taught me throughout my life.

27) To Live By Family
We are SO lucky to have every single one of our family members in Utah.  The farthest member is in Highland.  It is such a blessing to be able to be a part of everyone's lives, and I'm so thankful they're all a part of mine.

28) Exercise
I can't believe how much running has become a part of my life.  Gross, right?  But I'm so thankful that I've found something that helps me relieve my stress and, at the same time, get and stay fit!

29) People Who Don't Complain
Wow, I am most certainly a complainer at times.  And nothing will bring down morale more than someone who is constantly complaining!!  So for those of you who hardly ever complain [although I'm sure you have reasons to at times!], thank you for setting an example for me!

30) My Sweet, Sweet Husband
Last, but not least [actually exact opposite], my adorable hubby.  I really do not know where I'd be in my life without him!  It's because of him that I wanted to go to college in the first place, and it's because of him that I got through my darkest days, aka "rock bottom" in life.  So literally, I DO NOT know where I would be without him.

I AM SO THANKFUL!

Breaking Dawn

I don't know what to say...  But this was AWFUL!  I absolutely loved the books, but I'm sorry to say I don't publicize that much anymore...  Because the movies are just bad.

And this one??  This one might actually make me deny having even read the books because I'm so ashamed of this movie!

For those of you who haven't read the books...  I am SO, so sorry.  I swear the books aren't this bad!

Ahem... Taylor Lautner, you get the world's worst actor award, *CONGRATULATIONS!

Life Update

I've been super busy with life lately.  Between school, working, running [or trying], doctors, etc...  What a nightmare!  I literally cannot wait for winter break!  Ahh!  Anyways, I thought I'd catch all of you up on our lives lately  :)  ...if you care.  If not, you can stop here.  ;)  No fun pictures for this one!

As for me, obviously I've been going crazy with school.  Working full time and going to school almost full time is kind of a joke.  I am SO thankful for a job that allows me to do 3/4 of my homework when it's slow.  I really don't know what I would do if I had a demanding job and had to do all my homework at home.  I don't think I could do it.  I decided a few months ago that on top of my psychology major, I'm going to double major in sociology as well.  Then if all goes as planned, I'll have only one more credit hour than the required hours to graduate.  Perfect.  I recently registered for classes for the spring...  I'll be taking 13 credit hours.  Sick, it makes me ill just typing that!  Full time work and MORE than full time school.  Why?!  I just want to be DONE!  But we'll see if I actually keep all 4 classes.  I truly thank God for Jared, he helps me WAY more than he should!  Especially in my dumb philosophy class [let me just for a moment say how much I despise conceited student teachers!]...  Having a philosophy majored husband sort of helped.  Cheers to my last semester of generals!!!

I know some of you are wondering...  Yes, you read that right, I DID finally go see a doctor about my knee.  For those of you who know me well, I have not had the most enjoyable experiences with doctors in the past.  So to say that I was dreading this doctor visit is putting it lightly.  But, I am so glad to say that luckily I found a wonderful sports medicine doctor at TOSH who made me feel very hopeful!  His name is Dr. Jared Dunn and I'd recommend him to anyone!  He was super nice and funny and told me that I'll easily be able to run the Salt Lake City Half Marathon in April  :)  The best news in a long time!  Anyways, he said that the majority of my problem is hamstring tendinitis, and maybe a little bit of an IT Band problem.  Although he seemed to be a little surprised that my knee doesn't hurt at night...?  He referred me to a physical therapist [who specializes in running!] and I'll see him early Friday morning.  So wish me luck!  I'm SO anxious to start running again!

Now it's Jared's turn.  :)  My sweet, hard working husband got a new job at the U of U in a dialysis clinic in Bountiful!  It's a great job for him since he is now debating between going to medical school or PA [physician's assistant] school...  He'll be able to get great medical experience for his applications, and he's learned a lot so far.  He still works at his chiropractic office, so he's been a busy bee!  Some days he has to wake up at 3:45AM and gets home around the same time I do after 6PM!  Poor thing...  He sure is a hard worker and I sure do appreciate all he does!  All the benefits of that will surely catch up to him one day!  :)

Like I said, Jared is now going to either apply to med school or PA school.  So long law school!  Too many lawyers without jobs these days...  It doesn't seem as worth it anymore.  I've always thought Jared was meant to be in the medical profession.  He's got that wonderful [good doctor] healing personality!  He will be starting up school again in the spring to finish a few more science classes to apply for grad school, and then we'll see where that takes us.  Hopefully not anywhere too far!  But I'm excited to see what is to come!

Well...  I think that's about it in the Wilburn life!  That, or my brain is too fried from all this crap to function enough to blog.  I apologize.  Wish us luck...  I sure hope we both survive this crazy time in our lives!
