Well. This last doctor's appointment sure was interesting, wasn't it?! Goodness! Now that it's over and everything is a-okay, I can't stop laughing about it! I just had to write it down. This pregnancy is trying to kill me I think. Ready for a fun story? ;)
Tuesday [the day before my birthday] I had my usual doctor's appointment at 9:30AM. It was the first of my now weekly appointments. I went in and felt totally fine--just another appointment. The nurse took me back, checked all the usual things [weight, blood pressure, etc], seemed as though everything was normal as always. And then she reminded me that she was going to give me my pertussis vaccine that day. "Great, more gosh dang needles!" I thought to myself. Yuck.
Yes, for those of you who don't know [if you know me at all, then you already know this], I really truly dislike needles. Um, understatement. For example... I honestly don't have any nervous feelings about giving birth in a matter of weeks now... However, I am sick about the thought of having that epidural. Yeah... I don't like needles.
Anyway, she went and got the vaccine, shoved that sucker in my arm, and left me there to wait for my doctor. The vaccine wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be, just a tiny little needle. I was okay :) And then as I'm sitting on that little table waiting, I started to get pretty short of breath. Nothing new though since he's been up in my lungs for months now. So I didn't think anything of it. My doctor finally came in and was talking to me [about who knows what, I can't even remember at this point] and I really started getting short of breath--I mean, couldn't breathe period! Naturally, I started getting extremely light headed and could feel myself start sweating. I interrupted my doctor and said, "I'm sorry, but is this vaccine supposed to make me really light headed??" She just looked at me with that "oh no..." look on her face and told me to lay down.
Needless to say, I don't even remember laying down. BOOM! I was out! I started gaining some consciousness back when I heard my doctor yelling out the door, "I need some help in here immediately!" As my eyes are still closed, I'm just thinking, "why on earth does she need help? And why am I sleeping?" Haha!! A few seconds later I could feel a bunch of hands rolling me over onto my side and I finally opened my eyes a little bit. Yuck. There was vomit all over me. I felt like I was drowning in it! And there were about 6 people in the room with me running around like little chickens with their heads cut off--basically, I was dying. Ha! As my doctor was very quickly getting the ultrasound wand and lifting up my shirt to hear Little Man's heartbeat, I asked her if I had passed out [uh, duh?], and she said that I had passed out and had thrown up. How embarrassing. Luckily Baby Boy was kicking me like crazy, probably trying to get me to wake up [how nice of him to be concerned for his mama ;) ] so I knew he was doing okay.
After she knew I was okay, my doctor left me with my nurse. I asked her what on earth had happened! She said she wasn't quite sure--she said sometimes women who got really nervous around needles had passed out, but that's always immediately after the injection. Not 10 minutes after, like mine had been!
They sent me down to Labor & Delivery to have a stress test just to make sure my little guy was doing okay. Around 1PM, they sent me home to rest and said that he was doing just perfect. I got home and felt okay... Just a little drowsy and shaky. However, after eating a banana and a little nectarine, the sickness came on and I couldn't stop throwing up. I was soo cold and soo shaky. It was so much worse than morning sickness, I felt like dying! Finally, around 3PM, Jared called my doctor back and she told me to come back to Labor & Delivery to have more testing done.
When I got there, they monitored the babe who was still just kicking away. They took a few vials of blood for testing [yeah, just shoot me, will you? That sucked!], and after seeing that my white blood cell count was high, they took a urine sample to test for an infection which came back normal. After being at the hospital for ever, they finally told us we could go home around 8PM. I asked the Labor & Delivery nurse what was going on with me, and she told me that they honestly weren't sure. When I asked if I just had a weird reaction to the vaccine, she insisted that it had nothing to do with the vaccine. She actually said "You must've just had something brewing that just happened to come out after receiving the vaccine." Uh... for real? I've never passed out in my life, and then it just happened to come along after getting a vaccine. Yes, I'm still very skeptical. I'm absolutely positive it was the vaccine that I reacted so weirdly to. Definitely puts vaccines in a new perspective for me...
But anyways! I'm fine now :) I was still really shaky for a few days and had a few big bruises from the vaccine and IV, but I'm as good as new! But hey, at least I got to experience Labor & Delivery pre-labor, right?? ;)

Baby Shower #1!
I really am so beyond blessed to have such wonderful family and friends! A few days before my first shower, I had a dream that my mom and my sisters went through all this trouble to give me such a nice shower and no one came :( How sad is that? Needless to say, I was absolutely shocked that nearly every single person I invited came. To all of you... Seriously. Thank you! I cannot believe how generous and loving you all are. It means more to us than you will ever know!
And to all the wonderful people who helped with my shower-- Oh My Goodness! It was so perfect! Thank you, thank you, thank you for all your hard work and time spent making it so amazing :) I freaking love you ladies!!!!!
My dad and sister completely surprised me towards the end of my shower with the exact jogging stroller I wanted soo badly! A BOB SE jogging stroller! Let's just say I almost started crying... But we'll blame that on the hormones :) [And yes, I think my sister was as excited as I was!]

Updates & Progress!
Okay, so I’ve totally been M.I.A. the past few
months. But can you blame me? …ok, I guess you can. I have relatively
good excuses though I think; between working full time and struggling
through my online classes, all while being extremely
sick [thank goodness that has passed for the most part] and trying to
prepare for sweet baby boy to come… It’s been a
little LOT chaotic! I’ve never felt so many mixed emotions in my life, this is nuts!...or maybe
I’m going nuts? Hmm… Keep your comments to yourself on that one.
So here’s an update on our lives! Last I was on
here I was blogging about poor fluff Max. Well I’m glad to say that he’s
doing much better than he was a few months ago! :) That was really
hard for us, not knowing what was causing him
to be in so much pain. Well, after a few vet visits, pokes and prods,
x-rays, a lot of hissing from angry Max, and a ridiculous amount of
money [I swear vets are more expensive than human doctors!], the vet
came to the conclusion that Max had a herniated disc
in his lower back, which is why it was so painful for him to walk and
use his hind legs. Poor thing :( So we gave him some steroids for
several weeks and he gradually seemed to get better. As of now, he is no
longer limping :) Which is fantastic! We’re
certain that he must have hurt himself jumping off his 6’ tower that he
slept on top of daily. He hasn’t climbed that thing ever since. But
we’re really glad he’s doing better, and thanks to everyone for all the
nice thoughts, it meant a lot!
As for the babe :) Well, this little guy is
quite the athlete! And quite the insomniac as well. I’m in for some
trouble, that’s for sure! I think this guy gives the rolling and
thumping a break for about an hour a day. The rest of the
time my stomach is distorting and rolling in such ways I never thought
possible. I didn’t know I could be
so totally freaked out and so absolutely in love at the
exact same time :) It’s the craziest sensation, and an even crazier
thought to know it’s a little human being inside there! I don’t think
I’ll ever experience the worry some expecting mothers have
when their baby just isn’t an active, moving baby. That’s just not
going to be my problem! Whew!
This experience has been full of really high highs and really
low lows. It’s been an adventure, that’s for sure. And bless
Jared’s heart for not having divorced my crazy butt yet! There have
absolutely been some incredible parts of pregnancy… Like, of course,
feeling and seeing my stomach move all over the place—watching
my little man literally try to wiggle his way out of there! And knowing
that he’s
my little man! And seeing Jared talk to his little boy makes my heart just
explode! …even though most the time he’s telling him to “KICK HER!” :) Oh, and even though I feel like my stomach is just ginormous, I have yet to get any stretch marks! *knock on wood* Now THAT is a definite plus! I could just
go on and on! Pregnancy is an amazing thing :)
Obviously [well you’d hope] there are a
lot more items on my “highs” list than my “lows” list since I found out I
was expecting. But the lowest low I’ve had problems with… well, it’s a
big one. Ready for it…
Weight gain. Ugh. Yep, that’s
right, call me vain if you’d like! But coming from someone who has
always been very hard on my appearance, this is a rough one! I haven’t
even gained an excessive amount, I’m definitely within
the recommended amount of weight gain, but just watching that dang
scale go higher and higher… Just shoot me, will you?! Why can’t we just
gain the 7-8 lbs of pure BABY instead of the 7-8 lbs + XX lbs of
grossness?! I’ve definitely had my fair share [plus some] of complete
mental and emotional break-downs about my growing body. Sometimes I’ll see pictures of my
pre-pregnancy self [the body I wasn’t too pleased with at the time, mind
you] and I just want to die! Will
I ever get that back?! Ooh, the pain I’m going to put myself through to
ensure I get that back…! Don’t you worry though, I’m making a comeback,
no matter what I have to do! I have to just keep telling myself that. Someone please reassure me this is possible!
Anywho, here’s the progress I’ve made :) It's been fun taking weekly pictures of my growing belly! Only 8 more weeks, WOO HOO!!!
| 7 weeks, a few weeks after finding out I was pregnant |
| 15 weeks, finally starting to show a little bump |
