That's right, we've decided to make the next big leap and buy a home! I have never been so excited and so terrified all at the same time! This is such a HUGE commitment and I am the most indecisive person in the world... However, I absolutely cannot wait to get out of our tiny one bedroom/700 square foot apartment. I'm 1,000% sick of it! Since Jared decided he was only going to apply to the U for PA school, we thought "why not start putting our money into something instead of throwing it down the drain???"
Lucky for us, my brilliant brother-in-law owns a fantastic mortgage business and another one of my sisters-in-law is the world's best real estate agent! I'm SO thankful for all they've both done for us! It really has made us that much more excited about being home owners!
We have mostly been looking at town homes. Yes, obviously we would love to have our own single-family home. But I am SO picky... For how picky I am, there's no way we could afford our own home with my standards ;) But the town homes we have seen have been super nice! Most of them are brand spankin' new and super modern.
So... We have narrowed our search down to two, and I'm excited to see them both again next Saturday so we can try to make up our minds... But right now we don't know what to do! We've looked all around the valley from Draper to Woods Cross, and we found two that we're torn between. It comes down to what is our most important aspect right now in our lives.
One of them is in, ahem, Midvale, so... not in the most ideal location... Yes, I would probably lie about which city I live in. And yes, I am vain. BUT, the layout of the home is a-mazing!!! I really can't get it out of my head. It's just so ME. The master bedroom has a balcony, humungous kitchen, granite countertops, double vanity in the master bathroom, super wide staircase... Just SO nice. And it's in a brand new community, so we would have the option of starting from scratch and building our own home if we wanted! Picking out colors, upgrades, etc. And they even offered to sell us the model home if that's the one we really wanted.
And then there's the other one... This one is in Draper. Exactly the opposite problem as the other one... Obviously, it's in an awesome [yes, somewhat prestigious] location. I wouldn't feel ashamed to say where I lived ;) Again, it's a new community as well and it's right next to Harmon's ;) My fave! The inside of this one was also nice, but the model home we saw was basically ALL upgrades... Sweet wood floors, awesome tiled backsplash in the kitchen... Everything that I fell in love with is an upgrade. So I'm sure we'd be spending more than we should.
For some reason, I really can't get the Midvale one out of my head. But I keep thinking, "it's in Midvale." UGH! I know, call me a brat, but I've never pictured myself living in Midvale. But then again, on the other hand, I keep thinking that this is not our forever home. Of course I would love to end up in the Draper area some day, but does that really matter right now??
I need your opinions! Which is more important to you, loving the layout of your home or location???

I totally know how you feel, personally though I think location is more important. If this isn't going to be your forever home I would try looking at the location that is still going to be desirable when you go to sell it. :) thats my advice
One word...... Lehi. I LOVE my townhome! But I don't like claiming Lehi but who cares!
I have lots of friends who live in Midvale and love it. I don't think it's bad AT ALL!
Hello did you not see what happened to me and Chris lol. I think location is 100% key!! Although our house isn't the perfect upgraded house we would love to have..we love the location and it's where we have always wanted to be. I'm sure we could have gone somewhere else and had a amazing house for the same price. I think midvale is great..it depends on what east..just like anywhere else there is good parts and bad parts of the city. But when we lived in sandy it took us on a good day at least 20-25 minutes to get to work..draper is even further. And we lived RIGHT by the freeway enterance and draper is at least another ten minutes away..that's not counting traffic accidents and bad weather... Alot to think about. Sorry for the long long comment ;)
Been there, done that... and I can say from experience location is a big deal. The first few months I hated telling people I live in West Valley. It doesn't bother me as much now, but still when people ask where we live I usually say by Usana Amphitheatre. But like Christina said, there are good and bad parts of any location. Fortunately we found a great location in West Valley that isn't the "scarey" part of town.
Trust me, if it bothers you saying Midvale now, it will haunt you the entire time you live there. I still hate saying West Valley, and yet we are looking to move... coincidence??? Haha not entirely.
We too want a house in a great neighborhood, great location, great schooling for Crew and want the layout to be perfect, etc. It's really difficult when you are looking for your long term home!! You will figure it out! :)
You made the right choice - a beautiful home in a great location - you will love the convenience and it will resell well because of that - you guys are the best!!!
